“Okay, so I keep coming back to Ophelia. I don’t know why…not a tragic Ophelia. Instead some kind of sweetness and longing. A soft waiting, a pining, an altarscape to her beloved. I love this line from Hamlet, too:
”There’s rosemary, that’s for remembrance. Pray you, love, remember. And there is pansies, that’s for thoughts.
There’s fennel for you, and columbines. There’s rue for you, and here’s some for me. We may call it herb of grace o’ Sundays….”
The nest headpiece and crystal necklace were created by Lizz Godfroy, an artist and jewelry designer in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her website is Lily in Flux lilyinflux.com
The set styling was done by me and my studio mate in our large, warehouse studio in Cincinnati. Her website is Anatomy Vintage anatomyvintage.com
. The dress is vintage.

“The urban ballerina session has been in the making for over a year. Most of my styled sessions are outdoors as I love to work with natural light and the concept of bringing ballerinas outside to be photographed is something I’ve wanted to do for a while. The contrast of beauty and grace set against an industrial urban background inspired me to create this idea; the challenge of pointe shoes and tutus juxtaposed with graffiti and metal was too good to pass up. Working together with my assistant, Sharon Stoose, who does hair, makeup and clothes styling, we combine our own unique perspectives to create special moments during the shoot and I think that comes through in the images. Twin daughters of a client, these lovely young ladies were adventurous, patient and keen to try anything that was suggested. In this case, we shot in various downtown Victoria locations–parking lots, China town & rooftops! Our biggest challenges were trying to keep the expensive pointe shoes clean, curious pedestrians who didn’t realize they were in the way and trying to keep the girls warm! The session lasted 3.5 hours and that doesn’t include hair, makeup and assembling the 3 different outfits. I’m glad that I had the opportunity to fulfill my creative vision and look forward to the next challenge! ”
